2008 Jetta: New options and more horsepower provide better value

December 19, 2007

med_2008_jetta.jpgStandard for the 2008 Jetta is the economical, yet powerful, 2.5- liter five-cylinder engine that now delivers 170 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, compared to the previous generation that delivered 150 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. Mated to the standard five-speed manual transmission or the available six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic® and sport mode, the Jetta delivers on performance and efficiency.

The 2008 Jetta comes with — standard or as options — an Antilock Braking System, Anti-Slip Regulation, Electronic Differential Lock, Engine Braking Assist and Electronic Stability Program. Volkswagen has also outfitted the Jetta SEL model with a standard premium sound system, an iPod adapter with the optional navigation system and a 115-volt power outlet.

All 2008 Jettas feature four-wheel independent suspension and electromechanical steering that deliver a stable ride.

The Jetta comes with comprehensive standard equipment, including air conditioning, cruise control, a CD player, traction control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, eight-way adjustable front seats with height, angle and lumbar support adjustments and a tilt-and-telescope steering wheel.

Mercedes BLUETEC – A blueprint for the world’s cleanest diesels

December 19, 2007

The new E320 BLUETEC — distinguished as “2007 World Green Car” by an international panel of journalists earlier this year — can go nearly 700 highway miles on a single tank of fuel.

med_mercedes_bluetec.jpgBLUETEC denotes a state-of-the-art engine and exhaust technology, which produces the cleanest diesels available on the market today. BLUETEC diesel is able to provide the powerful torque (210 horsepower,388 pound-feet for the E320) of a large V-8 engine with the low fuel consumption of a four-cylinder compact. Combining several technologies to minimize diesel exhaust emissions, The E320 BLUETEC five-passenger sedan starts with a purpose-built 3.0- liter V-6 diesel engine that includes four valves per cylinder, centrally located piezo-electric injectors, third-generation CDI (commonrail direct injection), a turbocharger with variable nozzle turbine and exhaust gas recirculation. This technology is made possible with the use of ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel (less than 15 parts per million) that became available in the United States in 2006.

Standard equipment includes the Electronic Stability Program and new PRE-SAFE – the world’s first system that can sense and take protective measures before a crash.

2007 Jaguar XKR invokes respect

December 19, 2007

Building on the excellence of the XK introduced in late 2005, the XKR takes the Jaguar experience to new heights.

med_2007_jaguar.jpgLike the XK model, the new XKR makes intelligent use of practical, modern technology such as its industry-leading aluminum monocoque body structure. In addition, a 420bhp (SAE) supercharged V-8 engine and class-leading calibration of its state-of-theart, six-speed automatic transmission bring it to a level of accessible, real-world performance that makes the XKR the most impressive, everyday sporting GT in its class.

Enhanced sporting styling cues such as a unique front bumper, aluminum-finish grilles and hood vents emphatically reinforce the XKR’s powerful statement of intent. Its unique 19- and 20-inch alloy wheel designs and a quad-exhaust system also add to its overall presence.
